Dear Simon,
I am sure you remember what it was like to have cases suddenly canceled, and yet to know that you would be busy again very shortly. The holiday season of course brings with it the usual upsurge in cases, though admittedly at a children's hospital the number of cases are less -- for which many of us are grateful. I hope your own season was peaceful.
The temperature is currently very cold, of course; I don't know how much time you may have spent on Londinium in the past, but this time of year is much as it was in the northern hemisphere of Earth-that-was. The case I have next involves surgery due to a sledding accident. I myself have been sledding all of once. It is not an experience I would care to repeat, though it is quite popular in a park near mine and Ksenya's home.
Speaking of our home, the invitation still stands for you and Kaylee to visit. We would love to have you come for dinner whenever you have the time. I have not forgotten the details we could not discuss; I'd still like to hear them, if you'd like to tell them. Five and a half years is a very long time.
And speaking, of course, of five and a half years. Liz and I met for lunch about a month ago. She has no idea, she said, whether or not she would be intruding. She does wish you well.
